   Overview

History, Culture, Scenery, and Culture... more than just a walking tour!

Walking Adventures International is a team of individuals dedicated to providing quality, fun, thought-provoking travel experiences that encourage the traveler to appreciate wonders of creation, the joys of connecting with other cultures, and the value of understanding the story of humanity – history. Walking Adventures International does this by weaving together great walks, sightseeing excursions, and cultural experiences in a growing list of worldwide destinations. They believe these experiences broaden your understanding of yourself, the world, and the nations and cultures that you share it with.

They invite you to get off the bus, stretch the kinks out of your legs, and experience healthy travel itineraries that blend walking with historic, cultural, and scenic highlights.

Walking Adventures International headquartered in Vancouver, Washington. has been offering travel programs that combine walking with conventional sightseeing since 1989. Over the last 18 years, Walking Adventures International has been privileged to introduce over 2000 travelers to the benefits of this novel concept – motorcoach travel combined with walking.

The Adventures are fast-paced overview programs designed to introduce travelers to as much of a region's significant highlights as you can manage without wearing you to a frazzle. Travelers consistently tell Walking Adventures International that they show them fascinating places they don't think "regular tourists" would ever see and that they see more than they would ever have imagined possible in the time you are "out on the trail".

Walking Adventures International's Philosophy of Travel

“Close to the Ground” is a term used to capture the belief in connecting travelers with the destination being explored. Though guests sometimes stay in very nice hotels, Walking Adventures International believes that the more you try to take a slice of America with you when you travel, and expect your destination to provide all the comforts and conveniences of home, the less you truly experience the history, culture, and scenery you are trying to connect with. Walking Adventures International believes that the blend of walking and conventional sightseeing is the ideal vehicle to accomplish this connection. Sightseeing exposes you to the monuments and attractions that over time have become linked with the identity of the destination. Walking takes you into out-of-the-way places that expose you to the true identity that most travelers never see. This is who Walking Adventures International is and what they are aiming for with each Adventure.

“Safe but not Scripted” is another catchphrase that captures who Walking Adventures International is. In many ways, they are more like a travel club than a travel company. They have a relatively small base of travelers who return for travel on a regular basis. Each year, they survey their travelers to find out where they want to travel in the upcoming season. Therefore, they only offer a fraction of their Adventures in any given season and the schedule changes every year. Each travel program is a customized Adventure! Because they are not a tour mill, cranking out dozens of identical cookie-cutter tours like the larger tour operators, Walking Adventures International sometimes experiences a few more bumps and surprises than you’ll find on a more sanitized and fully scripted cookie-cutter tour. Walking Adventures International works hard to plan each program carefully, and because they are spread all over the planet, they rely on local travel partners to protect the standard of the arrangements made, but sometimes they end up experiencing some unplanned adventures, and these often become part of what makes the Adventure memorable.

Consider the advantages of seeing the world from a walker's perspective. Come experience an adventure!
